“Düşünüyorum da bence ilkelerle yaşamak gerek, evet, bireysel ve kolektif esenlik arayışı içerisinde birbirimizle uyum içerisinde olarak tabii. Bu benim için her halükârda çok önemli, ben daima mutluluk arayışı içerisindeyimdir. Şurası kesin, birlikte yaşıyor olmanın gerektirdiği toplum kurallarına uymak gerekir, fakat sonrasında bireysel özgürlükler sınırları dahilinde her şeyi yapmak mümkündür. Bugünün dünyası kaotik bir dünya, başka bir şeye açılan bir tür geçiş evresi… Başka bir toplum modeli bu. Gördüğümüz üzere, genç kuşağın entelektüel modelleri bizimle aynı değil, ki biz diğer toplum modellerini de gördük, tanıdık. Ben önceki daha iyiydi demeye çalışmıyorum, sadece geriye dönüşün artık olmayacağını ve bizim bunu kabul etmemiz gerektiğini söylüyorum. İletişim hiç bu denli gelişmemişti, günlük yaşamımızı her alanda adeta istila etti. Ve bununla birlikte her gün birbirilerini anlamayan kitleler arasındaki “anlama-anlaşılma” sorunlarına tanık oluyoruz. Popülizmin ve aşırıcılığın yükselişi… 30’lu yıllarla aynı dünya formundayız ve o yılların nasıl sona erdiğini de biliyoruz. Umut edelim ki insanlık, tarihten gereken dersi alsın!”
“Aslında gönlümdeki yurt haline gelen Türkiye’yi, doğup büyüdüğüm ülkemden, yani Fransa’dan daha iyi tanıyorum. İstanbul, tazelenmek için geldiğim daima göz kamaştıran bir mücevher. Bununla birlikte dünyada yükselen bir popülizm hareketinin süregeldiğini ve Türkiye’de AKP’nin iktidara gelişinin de dünya üzerindeki birçok ülkede görülen bu popülizmin Türk versiyonu olduğu tespitini de basitçe yapabilirim. Doğrusu, kişisel özgürlüklerin kısıtlandığını, azınlıkların ve muhalif medyanın bertaraf edildiğini ve bunun beni daha da rahatsız ettiğini dile getirmem gerek. Fransa’yla karşılaştırmak zor çünkü şu anda Fransa’da daha fazla sosyal adalet, daha fazla alım gücü ve daha yeni bir çehreye sahip demokrasi talep eden ‘Sarı Yelekliler’ görüntüsündeki Fransız toplumuna şahit oluyoruz ve bu topluma derinlemesine işlemişe benzeyen çok güçlü bir protesto hareketinin ortasındayız. Fransız halkı rejimi düşürmek adına devrimler yapabilme becerisine sahip bir halk, bunu daha önce kanıtladı, ki ben bunu yeniden gerçekleştirebilecek kapasiteye sahip olduklarını da düşünüyorum. Devleti yönetenler her şeyi altüst ederek kartların yeniden karılmasını sağlayacak bu kapasitenin bilincinde olmalı.”

Bense, tazelenmek, yine ve yeniden güzel insanlar, güzel manzaralar keşfetmek, yine ve yeniden yazabilmek için Türkiye’ye dönme ihtiyacı duyacağımın her halükârda farkındayım. Son nefesime dek!”

« Je pense… Il faut vivre avec des principes, oui, comme celui d’être en harmonie les uns avec les autres, dans la recherche du bien-être individuel et collectif. En tout cas, pour moi, c’est très important, je suis toujours dans la recherche du bonheur. Il faut des règles de société et de vivre ensemble. Après tout est possible dans la limite de la liberté individuelle. Le monde actuel est un monde chaotique, une phase de transition vers autre chose… Un autre modèle de société. On le voit bien, les modèles intellectuels des jeunes générations ne sont pas les mêmes que nous, qui avons connu d’autres modèles de société. Je ne dis pas que c’était mieux avant, je dis simplement qu’il n’y aura pas de retour en arrière, et que nous devons accepter ceci. La communication n’a jamais été aussi développé et a envahi notre quotidien pour tout… Et pourtant nous assistons chaque jour à des incompréhensions entre les peuples et les gens qui ne se comprennent pas… La montée des populismes et des extrémismes… Nous sommes dans la même configuration planétaire des années 30 et l’on sait comment cela s’est terminée. Espérons que l’humanité a retenu les leçons de l’histoire ! »
« En fait, je connais mieux la Turquie qui est devenu mon pays de cœur, que la France mon pays de naissance. Istanbul est un joyau toujours aussi magnifique, où j’aime me rendre pour me ressourcer. Je constate simplement qu’elle subit le mouvement mondial de la montée des populismes et que l’arrivée au pouvoir de l’AKP n’est que la version turque de ce populisme que l’on connaît dans bien des pays à travers le monde. Je dirai juste que le manque de libertés individuelles, que la chasse aux minorités et aux médias d’oppositions, me gêne plus. Pour un comparatif avec la France, c’est difficile, car actuellement nous traversons en France un mouvement de contestation très fort qui semble profondément ancrée dans la société française à l’image des « gilets jaunes » réclamant plus de justice sociale, de pouvoir d’achat, d’une démocratie revisitée… Le peuple Français en capable de faire des révolutions pour renverser les régimes, il l’a déjà prouvé, je pense qu’il en capacité de le refaire. Les gouvernants devraient prendre conscience de cette capacité à tout chambouler pour rebattre les cartes du jeu. »
« Pour moi, le mot clé du siècle dans lequel nous vivons, c’est la transformation, c’est la période actuelle… Nous quittons un modèle pour un autre ! Dans l’art, également, par l’utilisation d’outils digitaux, des nouveaux supports… Et la recherche d’une humanité dans un monde de plus en plus dématérialisé et donc en cours de déshumanisation. Par ailleurs, ce monde traverse un certain nombre de turbulences et de perturbations, ou des conflits d’intérêts et des lobbies tirent les ficelles en arrière scène, sans se soucier des impacts sur les peuples… Pourtant je suis optimiste, car l’humanité a toujours trouvé le moyen de s’adapter, de survivre, de se renouveler. En tous cas pour moi, je sais que j’aurai besoin de revenir en Turquie me ressourcer, de découvrir encore et encore de belles personnes et de beaux paysages, d’écrire à nouveau, encore et encore… Jusqu’à la fin de mes jours ! »

“I think… We have to live with principles, yes, like being in harmony with each other, in the search for individual and collective well-being. In any case, for me, it’s very important, I’m always looking for happiness. It is imperative that we comply with the social rules of living together. Then, it is possible to do everything within the limits of individual freedoms. The world today is a chaotic world, a transition phase to something else… Another model of society… As we can see, the intellectual models of the rising generation are not the same as us. Furthermore, we have known other models of society. I’m not saying it was better before, I’m just saying there will be no turning back, and we have to accept this. Communication has never been so developed and has invaded our daily lives for everything. And yet we witness everyday misunderstandings between people who do not understand each other… The rise of populism and extremism… We are in the same planetary configuration of the 30s, and we know how it ended. Let’s hope that humanity has learned the lessons of history!”
“Honestly, I know Turkey better, which became my country of heart, than France, my country of birth. Istanbul is a jewel always so beautiful, where I like to go to refresh myself. I simply notice that it is undergoing the worldwide movement of rising populism and that the AKP’s arrival in power is only the Turkish version of this populism that is known in many countries around the world. I will just say that the lack of individual freedoms, the hunt for minorities and oppositional media, annoys me more. For a comparison with France, it’s difficult, because currently we are going through a very strong protest movement in France which seems deeply rooted in French society in the image of “Yellow Vests” demanding more social justice, purchasing power, a revisited democracy… The French people able to make revolutions to overthrow the regimes, the people have already proven it. I think the people can do it again. The government rulers should be aware of this ability that can turn everything upside down to reshuffle the cards of the game.”
“For me, the key word of the century in which we live is ‘transformation’; it is the current period… We leave one model for another! In art, too, using digital tools, new supports… And the search for a humanity in a world increasingly dematerialized and therefore being dehumanized. On the other hand, this world is going through some turbulences and disturbances, or conflicts of interest and lobbies are pulling the strings behind the scenes, without worrying about the impacts on the people. However, I am optimistic because humanity has always found a way to adapt, to survive, to renew oneself. In any case for me, I know that I will need to come back to Turkey to refresh myself, to discover again and again beautiful people and beautiful landscapes, to write again and again… Until the end of my days!”
